  • Hows it fishing?
    Fishing conditions can vary with the weather, time of year, and recent activity on the lake — but there’s always a good chance of a bend in the rod at Dunham! For the most up-to-date info on how it’s fishing, including recent catch reports, match results, and seasonal updates, head over to our What’s On page. We update it regularly so you know what to expect before you visit.
  • Is Dunham Fishery part of a working farm?
    Yes! The fishery is located on a working farm, adding to the peaceful rural atmosphere. You might even spot some of the farming activity during your visit — it’s all part of the charm. See the Gallery for a feel of the surroundings.
  • Where is Dunham Fishery located?
    We’re based in Dunham Massey, near Altrincham in Greater Manchester. Visit the Directions page for our full address.
  • Do I need to book in advance to fish?
    No booking is required for general day fishing — just turn up and enjoy. However, we recommend checking the What’s On page for any updates, match dates, or lake closures before visiting.
  • What happens if I don’t follow the rules?
    We ask all anglers to respect the rules for the benefit of everyone. Those who fail to comply may be asked to leave the site. Please take a moment to review our full Rules & Regulations page before your visit.
  • Where can I find match dates or updates?
    Head to our What’s On page for all the latest match dates, fishing conditions, and news from around the lake.
  • Can I bring a BBQ or stove?
    No. For safety reasons, BBQs, fires, and gas stoves are not allowed on-site.
  • Are dogs allowed?
    Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. Please clean up after them.
  • Can children fish at Dunham Fishery?
    Absolutely — children are welcome, but must be supervised by an adult at all times for safety reasons.
  • Can I bring more than one rod?
    You may use up to two rods per person, and must remain close to your rods at all times.
  • Do I need an unhooking mat or landing net?
    Yes. All anglers must use a landing net, and we also require the use of an unhooking mat for fish care.
  • Are barbless hooks required?
    Yes, only barbless hooks are allowed at Dunham Fishery to protect fish health.
  • Can I use a keepnet?
    Keepnets are only allowed during official matches. For general fishing sessions, they are not permitted. More info is available on the Rules & Regulations page.
  • What bait can I use?
    We allow traditional coarse fishing baits like maggots, corn, pellets, and bread. However, boilies, meat baits (like luncheon meat), and nuts (like tiger nuts) are not permitted. Full details are on the Rules & Regulations page.
  • Is bait available to buy on-site?
    No, we don’t currently sell bait on-site, so please bring your own. Remember to check our bait rules on the Rules & Regulations page before you come.
  • Are there toilets available?
    Yes, we have a toilet on-site for visitor use.
  • Is there parking on-site?
    Yes, there is free on-site parking close to the lake for easy unloading of gear. See the Directions page for more.
  • What are the opening hours?
    We’re open seven days a week from dawn until dusk, weather permitting.
  • What types of fish are in the lake?
    The lake is stocked with a healthy range of coarse species including carp, tench, bream, roach, rudd, and perch.
