Sunday 9th August - Whiteoaks will be Closed for a match and will open at 4:30pm for evening fishing, Copper Beech will be open during the day - see below.

Beginners Fishing

We love to see beginners here at Dunham Fishery, there are some kits being sold online that are not appropraite for fishing at commercial fisheries and are being sold as kids starter kits - the best thing I suggest is to visit your local tackle shop and tell them you are beginners and they can best advise you on the basics that you will need to come fishing here at Dunham also which baits - maggot, caster and worm are all good at the minute as you will target the smaller fish to get you going. Due to the prolonged dry weather our lake Copper Beech is proving very quiet you are welcome to fish it and with maggot you will catch plenty of small Perch and Rudd which is great for young beginners - however the carp are very quiet and not feeding well during the day, they do seem to switch on for evening fishing ! Whiteoaks continues to fish well and the carp are showing during the day.

The only other matches in August are the regular Wednesday over 55's / disabled match, which means every Wednesday Whiteoaks will be CLosed until 4pm but will reopen at 4pm for evening fishing. Copper Beech will be open during the day. This match is an open and if you arrive at 8:30am you are welcome to join, it is very informal and freindly.

For those that are new to us we are open from dawn until dusk just turn up check the sign on the track on the way in to see if one of the lakes is Closed choose your peg and start fishing, we operate a baliff system so we will come and see you at the peg.

I know alot of people are also interested in the bird life at the farm, we have had 6 Kestrel chicks in the box at the farm which is a record number for us and they are now fledging and flying around the fishery and yard which is a great sight.

A great app which we use is the Merlin bird app which helps you listen and identify birds around the fishery and farm, here is a list from our records of netting that takes place to monitor bird populations.

Snipe, Teal, Partridge, Skylark, Feildfare, Redwing, Dunnock, Reed Bunting, Wren, Linnet, Yellowhammer, Kestrel, Common Chiffchaff, Goldcrest , Housemartin, Song thrush, Goldfinch, Blue tit, Javckdaw, Great Spotted Woodp[ecker.
